Creating your own Cat5e/Cat6 Ethernet Cables.

Creating your own CAT5e/CAT6 Ethernet cable is useful skill and very easy to learn. Nearly every home now has its own network and knowing how to terminate your own cables can save you money as well as having cables the exact length to your needs so no more tangled cables. It only takes about 10 minutes for almost anyone to measure and terminate their own Ethernet Cable.

Step 1: Equipment Required

1. Cat5e or Cat6 Cable
2. 8P8C Connectors (also known as RJ45)
3. Cable Boots (optional)
5. Cable Cutters (most crimp tools have one included)
6. Cable Stripper
8. Measuring Tape
9. Cup of Tea (No job should be started without one)

Step 2: Cutting the Length Required

Pull the length required for your cable. You will also need
to add about 4 Inches for the plug on each end. You can also use this technique to shorten a cable you already have all you have to do is measure the length you need and the cut the cable remember to leave yourself 2 inches for the new plug to be put on (this way you only have to terminate 1 plug).
NOTE: Network cables have a maximum length, depending on which type is being used, a common rule of thumb is Solid cable you should not exceed 100 meters. Stranded Cable you should not exceed 10 meters. If the length of the wire between two powered network devices exceeds this length, signal degradation and data loss may occur. Short patch leads should be made using stranded cable as it is more flexible but at longer lengths solid cable will be required.
TIP: When creating longer cables it is best to run the cable from point to point to get the length correct. The cable should not be tight, when pulling the cable make sure it does not have any kinks.
TIP: I normally try to allow some spare cable on most runs, encase in the future I decide to move the device a small distance then I do not need to run the cables again.

Step 3: Strip the Cable

1: Measure out 2 inches from one end of the wire and place the wire in the cable strippers at that location. The cable should be snug in the strippers, but not tight. For the recommended strippers, the second notch inward is appropriate.
2: Ensure the blade of the wire stripper is perpendicular to the wire and turn the wire stripper around the cable once, which will score the sheathing of the wire.
A: You are only trying to strip the outer sheath, when turning the stripper only do 1 rotation anymore and you are increasing the risk of cutting the inner cables.
3: Remove the cable stripper and gently bend the cable along the score line. This should break the sheathing which can be pulled off the wire and thrown away. When removing the sheathing you should expose 8 twisted cables.
NOTE: Some cable will have a cord running through it this can be cut near to the outer sheath. As you become more experienced with making Ethernet cables, you may not need to remove the full 1.5 inches of sheathing.

Step 4: Prepare the inner cables

1: Separate the individual cables so they are no longer
twisted together. At this point it does not matter on the order of the cables.
2: Now you have to organise the cables for the data plug. There are two configurations for this the most common is T-568B with the order shown below. The other configuration is T-568A which works just as well but is not as commonly used. If you are terminating one end from a cut down patch lead you will need to terminate in the same way as the original end.
I use the following configuration moving left to right
• White-Orange
• Orange
• White-Green
• Blue
• White-Blue
• Green
• White-Brown
• Brown
NOTE: If you are interested in making an Ethernet Crossover cable, just do an image search for "Ethernet Crossover Cable Diagram" to get a wire configuration diagram.
3 (optional): Place the boots on the cable. The large part of the boot is to cover the connector so should be closets to the cut.
4: Firmly grasp all the cables near the sheathing and slide your fingers up, collecting all the cables into a flat line. Make sure the cables from left to right are the same configuration as described above.
5: Straighten the cables. Do not worry if the cables aren’t an even length, just straighten them as best you can.
6: Using the cable cutters, trim the tips of the cables so they are even. Make sure the cut is perpendicular to the cables.

Step 5: Crimp the connectors to the cable

1: Ensure the cables are still in the same configuration as
the last section. Insert the cables in the connector as shown in the images above. The tab on the connector should be facing the floor White-Orange cable should be the furthest left in the connector. When inserted, the sheathing should be just inside the end of the data plug. If the wires are too long, remove the data plug, cut a very small length of wire from the end, and reinsert the cable into the data plug.
NOTE: Looking into the connector check all the cables are as far forward as they can be making sure they are past the metal spikes which will come down when crimped.
TIP: If the wires do not want to slide into the connector, moisten them with a drop of water.
2: Make sure the outer sheathing is just inside the plug, pinch the cable about 2 inches below the connector. With your other hand pinch the cable slightly higher and slowly slide towards the connector as if you are stretching the outer sheath. This should move the sheathing further into the connector. Be sure you are not pulling the cables away from the end of the plug.
NOTE: If you push the sheathing too far into the connector, you will start pulling the cables back into the sheathing. Make sure all the wires are fully inserted in the plug.
3: Insert the prepared plug in the crimping tool and squeeze the handle, crimping the wires.
4: Repeat on the other end and pull the boots over the connectors

Step 6: Test your patch lead

Now it is time to test your lead, all testers are different but on my one the lights, light up on after the other and they all worked fine.

I recently wanted to test a program in as many types of operating systems as I could. A super efficient way of doing this is to use a virtual desktop program.
Using this type of software, I was able to run several operating systems at once from a single mid level laptop including the host os. So I can directly compare the programs actions and re-actions side by side within the different os environments. This instructable to will show you how and give links to all the relevant software as well as links to download all the different operating systems I have used in the past (That are legally offered free of charge) Note that these virtual desktop software can be run on OSX, Windows or Linux and at 32bit or 64bit
I use a Macbook, but these steps are cross platform, the only discernible difference is the virtual machine software version (Links Given). You download the appropriate one to match you host os - The os that runs on your computer that will run the virtual machine software.
The software I use is called VirtualBox - It's free for life and works on Windows, Mac, Linux & Solaris. It will run virtual machines for all known os types currently available for commercial purchase or free download.

Step 1: Why is Virtualization Useful?

Running multiple operating systems simultaneously. VirtualBox allows you to run more than one operating system at a time. This way, you can run software written for one operating system on another (for example, Windows software on Linux or a Mac) without having to reboot to use it. Since you can configure what kinds of "virtual" hardware should be presented to each such operating system, you can install an old operating system such as DOS or OS/2 even if your real computer's hardware is no longer supported by that operating system.
Easier software installations. Software vendors can use virtual machines to ship entire software configurations. For example, installing a complete mail server solution on a real machine can be a tedious task. With VirtualBox, such a complex setup (then often called an "appliance") can be packed into a virtual machine. Installing and running a mail server becomes as easy as importing such an appliance into VirtualBox.
Testing and disaster recovery. Once installed, a virtual machine and its virtual hard disks can be considered a "container" that can be arbitrarily frozen, woken up, copied, backed up, and transported between hosts. On top of that, with the use of another VirtualBox feature called "snapshots", one can save a particular state of a virtual machine and revert back to that state, if necessary. This way, one can freely experiment with a computing environment. If something goes wrong (e.g. after installing misbehaving software or infecting the guest with a virus), one can easily switch back to a previous snapshot and avoid the need of frequent backups and restores. Any number of snapshots can be created, allowing you to travel back and forward in virtual machine time. You can delete snapshots while a VM is running to reclaim disk space.
Infrastructure consolidation. Virtualization can significantly reduce hardware and electricity costs. Most of the time, computers today only use a fraction of their potential power and run with low average system loads. A lot of hardware resources as well as electricity is thereby wasted. So, instead of running many such physical computers that are only partially used, one can pack many virtual machines onto a few powerful hosts and balance the loads between them.

Step 2: Installing the Virtual machine Software

Using the following links, download and install the appropriate version of VirtualBox for the operating system your computer is running. If you want to look at other virtual machine software for any reason, check out the list on the next page. There are two lists, one for free software and one for paid or preview software. I use VirtualBox because it works great and it's free. They update it sub monthly and already have profile defaults for windows 10 VM's.

To take full advantage of the special features such as drag from host os to vm os, you will need the "additions" package - A single download that works with all versions of VirtualBox.

Parallels - A popular choice for Mac users. As well as fully fledged VM's it can run windows software as if it were running natively on the mac desktop. Great for running windows only software on your mac.

Step 4: Creating your VM

Now we have the correct software installed, we can set up our virtual machine. VirtualBox works by setting up a fake environment enabling it to "trick" the os into thinking it is running on a physical computer. You decide on the hardware and capabilities using a set of sliders. The new guest os simply "see's" the virtual hardware as actual hardware.
After setting up the hardware, you will need to install the new os on to that virtual pc. This is the same as installing a new os on a physical machine. You need a copy of the os install files or cd, a licence if its a paid for version such as Windows and away we go. There are free os's such as linux, android, Chrome os etc. I'll give a list of these later.
> Open up VB and you will be presented with a box. The only thing you can click on is the "new" button - Top left.
> Give the new virtual machine a name and follow the rest of the instructions. Note that VB gives you all the relevant info to choose how much RAM and HDD space to allocate to the new VM. VirtualBox can dynamically allocate hard drive space. So a 50GB virtual hard drive when empty only uses about 2mb of data on your actual hard drive. The size only increases as you add actual data to it, i.e. installing the os or adding other files. VB will also suggest the best settings based on the available system resources your physical computer has to offer.
You can also locate the virtual machine files on your computer and transfer them to an external HDD. This is a must because os installs can take a lot of space. If you have 3 or 4 on you computer you will be crunching through 100's of gigabytes of space on your hard drive to store all the files.
Use the following link (section 10.1) to find where your files are stored, then copy them to your back-up or external drive.
After this, open up VB and remove the virtual machine you just created. Now navigate to you external or back-up hdd and open up the vm by double clicking the blue VirtualBox icon. Your computer will now re-open VirtualBox and associate these copied files to a new virtual machine in your library but leave the core files and virtual storage on your external or back-up hdd. Saving you space and load time.

Step 5: Running you new VM for the 1st time

By this point you will already have decided what os you are going to install because it was the first setting VirtualBox asked for. Note that windows licence is usually only for one physical computer and most copies out there are OEM versions. If you want to run any version of windows (XP onwards), you're going to need a legitimate copy with a licence key to activate it. If you don't have windows - download the technical preview of the new Windows 10 OS

There are ways to get full versions of windows for free on the internet using torrent sites and the like. I won't go into that here though. Google is your friend if that's the way you want to go.
Legally, Mac OSX can only be run on a mac computer, again there are ways around this, none of which are legal. VirtualBox will allow you to install Mac OSX without issue. as long as you have the disc or ISO file.
There are versions of apple and Windows you can legally download, more for fun than anything else because they are all the old versions; If you don't want these, skip to the next step...
MSDOS - I would use DOSBOX for this. It just works and is easy to set up

Step 6: I have a copy of an OS

The Virtual machines that we have set up are just blank virtual computers. So we need to add the OS. The easiest way is to use the ISO - (A file version of a cd/dvd) or the actual cd of the operating system. In VirtualBox before you load the VM, change the settings to tell the machine to boot from cd first, the machine will then check the cd tray before anything else for boot media. (Change this after OS install). Now highlight the Virtual Machine in the list on the left, select settings and navigate to storage. Under controller:IDE, click the small cd icon in the list. This will give you a secondary menu. click the small cd icon next to the CD/DVD Drive box. Now select the ISO file you have stored on your computer. If you have the actual cd/dvd, use the dropdown menu to select the drive.
Now start the Virtual machine. Depending on the version you set up the computer will go through the initial post start process. It will then check the virtual cd drive for boot media. As you just told VirtualBox to add your iso or cd/dvd to the virtual cd drive the Virtual machine will see this and boot from it. The machine will then load the os boot sequence and you can follow the install procedure. Yay. You now have a fully working Virtual machine running along side your host os. We can repeat this process for as many VM's as you like. On my mac, I can just about run windows xp, and windows 8.1 as well as the same CRM program in each without running out of Ram on my host machine. For reference I have 4gb of ddr3 running at 1600mhz.

Step 7: Installing software

If you installed additions into VirtualBox, you will be able to drag and drop files from the host os to the guest os. If not, you can share local files with the VM or usb storage drives. Either way you can then install and test your software. To use an external usb drive with your virtual machine, click the small usb icon at the bottom of the vm window. select the drive and VB will mount it within the VM's environment. You may need to eject or un-mount it first in the host os but don't unplug it...

मेक इन इंडिया - आपला इतिहास काय सांगतो?

  
सध्या मुंबईत मेक इन इंडियाची धामधूम सुरू आहे. आंतरराष्ट्रीय समुदायापुढे भारतीय उत्पादन क्षमतेचा उत्सव साजरा करून जगभराच्या निरनिराळया उद्योजकांनी भारतात येऊन आपल्या उत्पादनाची निर्मिती करावी, अशी भूमिका तयार करणे हा मेक इन इंडियाचा उद्देश आहे. आज भारत आणि चीन पुन्हा एकदा आर्थिकदृष्टया महत्त्वाचे देश ठरू लागले. परंतु हे चक्र पूर्ण झाले, असे म्हणता येत नाही. भारतातल्या स्वातंत्र्योत्तर आर्थिक विकासामध्ये उत्पादन क्षेत्राचा टक्का अजून तरी नगण्य आहे. उत्पादन क्षेत्राला प्रोत्साहन दिल्याशिवाय भारतीय अर्थव्यवस्थेला बळ येणार नाही. खरे तर 'मेक इन इंडिया'चा या परिप्रेक्ष्यात विचार व्हावा.

आजमितीला भारताच्या राष्ट्रीय उत्पादनांपैकी 57% हिस्सा सेवाक्षेत्रातून निर्माण होतो. साधारण 18.20% हिस्सा शेतीक्षेत्रातून येतो, तर औद्योगिक क्षेत्राचा हिस्सा फक्त 13.89% आहे आणि हा हिस्सा दिवसेंदिवस कमी होत चाललेला आहे. खरे तर शेतीप्रधान अर्थव्यवस्थेतून सेवाप्रधान अर्थव्यवस्थेकडे संक्रमण हे औद्योगिक क्षेत्रातून जात असते आणि तसे ते अपेक्षित असते. आजच्या प्रगत राष्ट्रांच्या अर्थव्यवस्था ढोबळमानाने विकासाच्या प्राथमिक टप्प्यांमध्ये कृषिप्रधान होत्या. औद्योगिक क्रांती होऊन उत्पादन क्षेत्र वाढले. औद्योगिक क्षेत्राच्या उत्पादन वाढीचे अनेक फायदे असतात. या वाढीमुळे रोजगार निर्मिती होते आणि लोकसंख्यावाढीमुळे कृषिक्षेत्रात निर्माण होणारी अतिरिक्त श्रमशक्ती सामावून घेतली जाते. श्रमाच्या उत्पादकतेमध्ये आणि एकूण उत्पादनामध्ये वाढ होते. लोकांचे राहणीमान उंचावते आणि टप्प्याटप्प्याने औद्योगिक क्षेत्राला पूरक अशा सेवाक्षेत्राची वाढ होत जाते.
भारतात मात्र अर्थव्यवस्थेने हे उत्पादन क्षेत्राच्या वाढीचे वळण चुकविले. स्वातंत्र्यानंतर भारतीय अर्थव्यवस्थेची वाटचाल कृषिप्रधान अर्थव्यवस्था ते सेवाप्रधान अर्थव्यवस्था हा उत्पादन क्षेत्राचा टप्पा चुकवून झाली. म्हणून शेतीतील अतिरिक्त श्रमशक्ती इतरत्र सामावून घेतली गेली नाही. शेतीत श्रमाची उत्पादनक्षमता आणि म्हणून रोजगाराची पातळी वाढू शकली नाही. जी श्रमशक्ती सरळ सेवाक्षेत्रात दाखल झाली. त्यापैकी बहुतेक ही कमी पगाराच्या, अत्यंत माफक प्रशिक्षण लागणाऱ्या अशा सेवाक्षेत्रात आली. तिथे ना चांगल्या पगाराच्या नोकऱ्या, ना नोकरीची शाश्वती. ही परिस्थिती बदलायची असेल, तर मेक इन इंडियासारखे उपाय करणे भागच आहे.
खरे तर भारतात अशी परिस्थिती नव्हती. अठराव्या शतकाच्या उत्तरार्धात भारत आणि चीन हे जगातील महत्त्वाचे उत्पादक होते. इ.स. 1750 साली जगातील औद्योगिक उत्पादनाच्या एकूण 32.8% उत्पादन एकटया चीनमध्ये होत असे. तर 24.5% उत्पादन भारतात होत असे, अशी आकडेवारी सांगते. म्हणजे भारत आणि चीन मिळून एकूण जगातील उत्पादनाच्या अर्ध्याहून अधिक उत्पादन करीत असत. इ.स. 1800मध्ये भारतातील उत्पादनाचे प्रमाण जगातील उत्पादनाच्या 20%वर आले. अगदी 1830 साली एकूण जगातील औद्योगिक उत्पादनांपैकी 18% उत्पादन भारतात होत असे; परंतु याच काळामध्ये औद्योगिक क्रांतीमुळे युरोपच्या आणि अमेरिकेच्या अर्थव्यवस्थांनी वेग घेतला. त्यांच्या उत्पादन क्षमतेत प्रचंड वाढ झाली. 1860 साली भारतातील उत्पादनाचे प्रमाण जगातील उत्पादनाच्या 8.5%वर आली. 1880 साली ही टक्केवारी 3%वर आली, तर 1900 साली ती 1.7% इतकी कमी झाली. याचाच अर्थ मेक इन इंडिया हा तर आपल्या औद्योगिक परंपरेचा भाग आहे.
ब्रिटिश राजवटीच्या सुरुवातीला असलेली भारतीय व्यवस्था ही राजकीय अस्थैर्याने ग्रस्त असलेली, आर्थिकदृष्टया अविकसित अशी होती असे चित्र उभे करण्यात आले; परंतु तसे ते नव्हते. एकोणिसाव्या शतकाच्या सुरुवातीला जरी मोगल सत्तेचे राजकीय महत्त्व कमी झाले, तरी त्याचबरोबर सत्तेचे विक्रेंदीकरण होऊन अनेक स्थानिक राजसंस्था उदयास आल्या. या सत्तांमध्ये राजकीय स्पर्धा जरी असली, तरीसुध्दा एकंदरीत स्थानिक बाजारपेठा, व्यवसाय, इतर उत्पादक क्षेत्रांचा विकास या राजसत्तांनी केला. यात भारताचे औद्योगिकीकरणसुध्दा समाविष्ट होते. अठराशे साली भारताच्या एकूण लोकसंख्येपैकी 20% लोक प्रामुख्याने औद्योगिक क्षेत्रात कार्यरत होते. येथील जीवनाचा स्तरसुध्दा उच्च दर्जाचा होता. महाराष्ट्राविषयी बोलायचे झाले, तर आपण कॅप्टन विल्यम साईक्स् (Captain William Sykes) यांनी गोळा केलेल्या आकडेवारीकडे वळू.
ब्रिटिश राज्यसत्तेने पेशवाईचा पाडाव केल्यानंतर, दख्खनचे संख्याशास्त्रीय विश्लेषण करण्यासाठी विल्यम साईक्स्ची नेमणूक केली गेली. साईक्स यांनी खानदेशातल्या साडेतीन हजार शहरांची आणि खेडयांची आकडेवारी अत्यंत सूक्ष्मपणे मांडलेली आहे. प्रत्येक गावामध्ये राहती घरे किती व ओसाड घरे किती, लागवडीखालील जमीन किती व पडिक जमीन किती, जमिनीला पाटाने पाणी किती व विहिरीने पाणी किती मिळते, तसेच प्रत्येक गावामध्ये स्त्री व पुरुष किती आहेत व ते कोणता व्यवसाय करतात, प्रत्येक गावात बैल, म्हशी, गाई, बैलगाडया व शाळा किती आहेत याची आकडेवारी मांडली आहे.
या आकडेवारीला तत्कालीन युरोपचे निकष लावून पाहिले, तर 1827मध्ये खानदेशातील शहरीकरणाचे प्रमाण हे युरोपमधील सर्वसाधारण तत्कालीन शहरीकरणाएवढे दिसून येईल. उदाहरणार्थ एकूण लोकसंख्येपैकी 23% लोक 2000पेक्षा अधिक लोकसंख्या असलेल्या शहरांमध्ये राहत होते. 5000पेक्षा जास्त लोकसंख्येमध्ये राहणाऱ्या लोकसंख्येचे एकूण लोकसंख्येशी प्रमाण तत्कालीन फ्रान्समध्ये 11% होते, तर खानदेशात ते 13% इतके होते. ही तुलना तपासताना साईक्स यांच्या आकडेवारीमध्ये खानदेशामधील तत्कालीन बऱ्हाणपूरसारखे मोठे शहर समाविष्ट नाही, हे लक्षात घेतले पाहिजे. 500पेक्षा कमी लोकसंख्या असलेल्या खेडयांमध्ये फक्त 51% लोकसंख्या राहत होती. त्यामुळे परंपरागत भारतीय समाज लहान लहान खेडयांमध्ये राहत होता, या समजुतीला छेद जातो.
विशेष म्हणजे दलितांचे व्यवसाय सोडून बहुसंख्य कारागीर हे मोठया शहरात राहताना दिसून येतात. शिवाय शहरात दुकानदारीचे प्रमाण मोठया प्रमाणात दिसते. दलित समाज मात्र प्रामुख्याने छोटया खेडयात दिसतो. अठराव्या शतकात इथली बहुतांश शहरे पुणे, मुंबई, बडोदा आणि इंदोर या महत्त्वाच्या शहरांना जोडणाऱ्या रस्त्यालगत वाढली होती.

अठराव्या शतकातील भारतीय अर्थव्यवस्था जागतिक अर्थव्यवस्थेच्या दृष्टीनेच नव्हे, तर राजकीय दृष्टीनेसुध्दा महत्त्वाची होती. भारतातल्या अंतर्गत राजकारणात होणारे उलटफेर हे जागतिक अर्थव्यवस्थेवर आपला ठसा उमटवत असत. आम्ही केलेल्या संशोधनातून असे दिसून आले आहे की, भारतातील मराठे, टिपू सुलतान, इंग्रज व फ्रेंच यांच्यात होणाऱ्या सत्तासंघर्षाचे पडसाद लंडनच्या शेअर बाजारात उमटत असत आणि इंग्लडमधल्या उद्योगधंद्यांना ज्या व्याजदराने भांडवल पुरवठा होत असे, त्याच्यावर परिणाम करत असत. म्हणजेच अठराव्या शतकातले आंतरराष्ट्रीय जग केवळ युरोपकेंद्रित नव्हते, तर भारत, चीन आणि युरोप असे तीन ध्रुव असलेले जग होते.
अठराव्या शतकातील सर्वसाधारण भारतीयांचे राहणीमानसुध्दा तत्कालीन इंग्लंडपेक्षा उजवे होते, हे प्रसन्ना पार्थसारथी या इतिहासकाराने दाखवून दिलेले आहे. अठराव्या शतकाच्या उत्तरार्धात व एकोणिसाव्या शतकाच्या पूर्वाधात दक्षिण भारतातल्या शेतकऱ्यांचे राहणीमान तत्कालीन ब्रिटिश शेतकऱ्यांच्या तुलनेने उजवे होते आणि हा फरक वाढत होता, हेसुध्दा पार्थसारथी यांनी दाखवून दिलेले आहे.
याचाच अर्थ अठराव्या शतकातील भारतीय अर्थव्यवस्था ही जगातल्या अर्थव्यवस्थेत महत्त्वाची होती. एकोणिसाव्या शतकात मात्र अनेक कारणांनी भारतीय अर्थव्यवस्थेला उतरती कळा लागली आणि स्वातंत्र्यानंतर काही दशके चुकीच्या धोरणांमुळे आर्थिक विकास हवा त्या वेगाने होऊ शकला नाही; परंतु 1990नंतर अर्थव्यवस्थेला पुन्हा वेग प्राप्त झाला.
भारत आणि चीन पुन्हा एकदा आर्थिकदृष्टया महत्त्वाचे देश ठरू लागले. परंतु हे चक्र पूर्ण झाले, असे म्हणता येत नाही. भारतातल्या स्वातंत्र्योत्तर आर्थिक विकासामध्ये उत्पादन क्षेत्राचा टक्का अजून तरी नगण्य आहे. लेखाच्या सुरुवातीला म्हटल्याप्रमाणे उत्पादन क्षेत्राला प्रोत्साहन दिल्याशिवाय भारतीय अर्थव्यवस्थेला बळ येणार नाही. खरे तर 'मेक इन इंडिया'चा या परिप्रेक्ष्यात विचार व्हावा.
